Screen-sharing problems

Sharing will not start, black screen, blurry picture and no audio — the steps to try in order.

Screen sharing starts with the Share screen button while you are in a voice channel; you can share your whole screen or a single window. With TEBHOS Pro, sharing goes up to 4K / 60 fps. If something goes wrong, try the steps below in order.

Sharing does not start at all

  1. Browser permission: if you use the browser, choose Share when asked for screen-capture permission. If you refused earlier, reset the permission from the lock/permissions icon in the address bar and reload the page.
  2. Browser on macOS: allow your browser under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording; restart the browser after granting it.
  3. Windows app: update the app (see Windows app updates) and try again.

A black screen is shown

  • Full-screen games: games in exclusive full-screen mode sometimes cannot be captured. Switch the game to “borderless window” mode and share again.
  • Protected content: some video services block screen capture; that content appears black to viewers and is not a bug.
  • Share the screen instead of a window: if a particular window comes through black, try sharing the whole screen.
  • Hardware acceleration: if the black screen persists in the browser, toggle hardware acceleration off and on in the browser settings.

The picture is blurry or stutters

  • Bandwidth: stream quality depends on your upload speed. Switch to a wired connection if you can; close download and streaming apps in the background.
  • Resolution and frame rate: pick a lower resolution/frame rate when starting the share; the high settings (4K / 60 fps) are unlocked with Pro and need a strong connection.
  • Server audio quality does not affect this; screen-share quality depends only on your plan and your connection.

Audio is not shared

  • In the browser, audio is only sent when sharing a tab or (on Windows) the entire screen with the “Share audio” box ticked; when sharing a single window, most browsers do not send system audio.
  • In the Windows app, keep the Share audio option on when starting the share.

Still not solved?

Note your platform (Windows app / browser and version), what you were sharing (screen / window / tab) and the time of the problem, and write to [email protected] using the template in the bug-reporting guide. For audio problems see Troubleshooting voice issues.
